In this lesson, students begin by examining data on high-budget blockbusters (e.g., Star Wars, Fast X) to debate whether massive spending guarantees quality or if critics and audiences often disagree. They then explore the future of filmmaking through AI, watching a viral "uncanny" spaghetti video and an AI-generated short film (Zombie Scavenger) to sequence plot events and discuss whether artificial storytelling can truly evoke emotion. The lesson transitions into linguistic precision with adjective order rules, where students practice arranging multiple descriptors (opinion, size, age, etc.) for famous films like The Matrix and Parasite. Finally, students read about the essential ingredients of great cinema — such as memorable characters and thought-provoking themes — and reflect on what makes a movie exceptional beyond its budget or technology.
