In this lesson, students begin by examining a provocative rant about travel culture that challenges common assumptions about why people travel, sparking debate about authenticity versus performative tourism. They then read about Hannah Kennedy, who has visited 25 countries by age 23, and identify her top three destinations (Ireland, Egypt, and Germany) while completing True/False comprehension tasks. The lesson transitions to vocabulary building with words like breathtaking landscapes, efficient, enchanting, and scratched the surface, which students use to complete gap-fill exercises describing Hannah's trips. Students then practice the Present Perfect tense by forming questions about travel experiences before listening to Hannah discuss specific cultural activities in Ireland, trying koshari in Egypt, and visiting Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany. Finally, learners reflect on their own travel preferences by identifying favorite and least favorite countries, discussing what makes destinations memorable, and evaluating whether they agree with Hannah's perspective that "living abroad opened my eyes to the world."
