The lesson then shifts to a practical application through an audio task following Sarah’s "5 Compliments a Day" challenge. Learners listen to her experiences - such as interacting with a barista named Jake, a woman named Priya, and her crush Ethan - and answer comprehension questions to track her journey from initial nervousness to the realization that giving compliments genuinely builds trust and connection. Finally, the class wraps up by reviewing the proven benefits of positive reinforcement, such as boosting self-esteem, improving teamwork, and increasing overall happiness. Students brainstorm specific, personalized compliments using a provided list of 20 examples, practicing how to observe details and express gratitude without making comparisons, ensuring their praise feels both thoughtful and authentic.
