About This Lesson

In this lesson, students begin by analyzing data visualizations that contrast the daily schedules of remote and in-office workers, discussing how factors like commute times, meeting loads, and interruptions impact focused work and overall well-being. They then explore the core concepts of synchronous versus asynchronous work, weighing the trade-offs between flexibility and coordination complexity. The core of the lesson features a listening activity where learners hear from professionals who have transitioned to an async model, identifying specific benefits they experienced. This transitions into a grammar focus where students review and practice structures used to describe past habits, current tendencies, and adaptation processes — such as used to, no longer, tend to, and get/be used to. Finally, students apply these grammar structures in personalized speaking tasks, reflecting on how their own work routines and digital behaviors have evolved. An extra task debates whether fully asynchronous culture can replace the social bonding of a physical office.
