B1-B2 · General English
In this lesson, students begin by expanding their vocabulary with synonyms for "annoying" and examining a National Geographic survey that ranks the most frustrating everyday irritants, ranging from robocalls and pop-up ads to chewing noises and overused expressions. They then listen to an audio segment to identify specific daily annoyances and practice functional language for expressing frustration (e.g., It drives me crazy when..., It gets on my nerves when...). The core of the lesson features two educational videos. The first introduces misophonia, an intense sensitivity to specific trigger sounds. The second explores the "Anger Iceberg Theory," helping learners understand that anger often masks deeper vulnerabilities such as embarrassment, fear, or unmet needs like respect and connection. Finally, students read an article outlining eight practical strategies for managing irritability before discussing which coping mechanisms they find most effective.
This lesson is designed to fit within a single 90 min session. Both audio and video components are included, which also works well for homework-based or asynchronous practice.
PDF handout, audio materials (MP3), video links, full downloadable package (RAR). Everything you need to run this lesson is ready to download — zero preparation required.
