In this lesson, students begin by defining what constitutes a scam and matching various fraud types (e.g., fake money, unexpected winnings, identity theft, get-rich-quick schemes, dating scams, buyer-seller fraud) to their specific descriptions. They then examine real testimonies from scam victims, matching each person's story to the type of fraud they experienced. The lesson transitions to the technological aspect of modern fraud, where learners analyze a world map showing dramatic increases in deepfake-specific fraud cases across different countries (e.g., Philippines 4,500%, Vietnam 3,050%, Japan 2,800%). Students watch a video about AI-generated fake reporters and evaluate the believability of these deepfakes before reviewing alarming statistics about mobile phishing attacks. Finally, students complete a gap-fill exercise using vocabulary from a "How to Spot an AI Scam" video (e.g., robotic, mislead, wallet, polished, sources) and discuss practical detection strategies, such as checking facial movements, verifying sources, and recognizing unnatural phrasing in messages.
