Students expand their vocabulary by matching specific types of affectation — such as name-dropping, intellectual posturing, and mirroring — to their definitions, before listening to four speakers describe their own experiences with these behaviors. The lesson culminates in a discussion where students reflect on which affectations they find most irritating, whether they are guilty of any themselves, and what matters more in communication: the content of words or the manner of delivery.
